I saw some screen shots of changes that LinkedIN is shortly to make to their layout and design and wasn’t surprised to see that they are moving to a design very similar to the latest design of Ecademy.
Here is the old:

and here is the new

That they have moved to a two column layout is not unexpected, it’s becoming commoner.
Notice the intermingling of content in the Right Hand column with advertising and details of the person’s latest activity as a part of the sets of data available.
Thye have shrunk the top bar, removed long left hand menu’s, to be replaced with menu’s across the narrow top band and embedded according to context. I suspect that we’ll all struggle to find stuff for a few weeks, but this does seem to be becoming the norm for social media site design, and I recognise that Ecademy itself copied elements from others, but there does seem to be an alignment in the design elements.
I guess the change will change the way I use the site too and I expect to be both pleased and disappointed. I’m not aware of any consultation on the change, is there are way to be included in the advance notifications of change at LinkedIN?
What do others think of the changes?
